She sat on the edge of a cliff inhaling the moonlight
Silver dripped into her watery lungs as her feet dangled over the edge the
Wind carried away all her feelings and gave her
A reason to fall to her death.
All her tears drifted away on the mountainous air and
The stars twinkled brightly reaching to her aid
Gave her a soft landing on a pillow of light
The feathers were tethered to every lock of her hair
And she stifled a sob as she cried with all her might.
The rain never let up that night.
The wolves found a treat for their young who were hungry they
Nuzzled her shoulder only to find her eyes were
Open and breath escape from her frame, the wolves knew
They were one and the same.
Dragged her through leaves to a cave in the west they
Could watch the sunrise easily.
As the horizon was painted with fire and roses
She tried to remember what that feeling was like.
Forgetting herself, she started to shiver
Burying her face into the wolves grey fur.
Said “If I had a lover, she’s be strong and beautiful
Grey and wise and warm, just like you.
But I’m on my own and that will never change.”
And she slipped from her consciousness just like that.
